Bernadette Downey, Founder and CEO

Bernadette founded Gennius in January 2002 to fill the unmet need to integrate and provide structure for quality and compliance healthcare information. She understands the needs of the healthcare industry, and works closely with her clients and partners to bring the best tools and solutions to the market.

Prior to Gennius, Bernadette served 22 years in senior management positions at several service sector companies. In addition, she was a founding member of three startup companies.  Bernadette gained a keen understanding of the healthcare industry as chief information officer for Medsafe, Inc., an outsourced compliance management and regulatory accreditation service to healthcare organizations. She also served as MIS director, president, and director of marketing at three different companies in the manufacturing and service brokering industries.  She is a graduate of Boston College School of Management.

Charlie Hoban, SVP Business Development 

Charlie joined Gennius in 2008 and is playing a leading role in business development and commercialization of Gennius’ Performance Management Solutions. His knowledge of current healthcare market dynamics helps customers determine their business intelligence needs and mapping Gennius capabilities to meet those needs. 

Prior to joining Gennius, Charlie spent 18 years as a management consultant with a specialization on matching innovative product offerings with customers’ most important unmet needs. Consulting to industry leaders in a variety of technology domains, Charlie helped companies make their offerings more valuable and relevant to customers. He worked with numerous technology innovators such as IBM, Microsoft, and Motorola on market penetration strategies for the health care and life sciences sectors.  He has also worked with numerous small innovative companies on the issues of effective commercialization.

Charlie is a graduate of Dartmouth College and the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University.

Jim Boucher, Chief Technology Officer


Jim serves as Chief Technology Officer of Gennius. Jim has over 25 years of software engineering experience in a variety of application areas. Prior to joining Gennius, he was Chief Architect and a member of the founding team at eScription, Inc. a healthcare software start-up using speech recognition technology to achieve 120% improvement in medical transcriptionist productivity. During his time there, the product scaled to a run rate of more than 2.3 billion lines of transcription per year, saved customers more than $130MM in transcription costs, and was ranked #1 in its category in the KLAS ratings for seven consecutive years.

He began his career in the word processing development group at Wang Laboratories building multi-lingual spelling and grammar checkers and on-line reference works. He spent nine years at Symmetrix, Inc. developing workflow applications and schedulers for the manufacturing, financial services and health care industries. Jim graduated from Dartmouth College and holds a Ph.D. from Brown University.
